Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in Africa, with a name that means the victorious city. It is located on both banks of the River Nile near the head of the river delta in northern Egypt and has been settled for more than 6.000 years, serving as the capital of numerous Egyptian kingdoms. Cairo also includes several river islands, which play an important role in the life of the city. As the region principal commercial, administrative, and tourist center, Cairo contains many cultural, universities, and hotels, which together create a busy of constant activity.The center of downtown Cairo is in Tahrir Square, which is located along the east bank. A hub tourist activity, the vast and open square contains numerous attractions, including the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities. Global Report ranked Egypt among the ten safest countries in the world.
The first NA meeting was held in Cairo on the 27th of November 1989 at Saint Claire school in Heliopolis. Egypt is seated at the EDM from 1997 and first attended its meetings in Lisbon that same year. Egypt is seated at the WSC since 2010 with voting rights. We have 200 meetings a week in different parts of the country. The local fellowship organizes a summer (most of the time in Alexandria) and a winter convention (in Cairo) every year with attendants varying from 600 hundred to 1500. The local fellowship has registered itself as an NGO with the local authorities in 2008 and since that date, we have legal status. This NGO also called “NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS NA” is directly responsible for the local fellowship. The local fellowship has 3 areas and 4 GSFs. It also has well-established sub-committees including PI/PR, H&I, translations, activities, literature, FD/outreach
